Events are much more than getting together. They are moments of learning, growing and having fun.
Learning never stops, and often, we don't know what we don't know. The last few years have been another period of exponential growth and learning, as I have learnt more about the death care sector from a very different perspective.

Monthly - Matters of Life & Death Cafe
What is Matters of Life and Death Cafe"???
Simply a safe space for people to come together and talk about anything related to death, dying, advanced life care planning and to be honest, lots of laughs.
It's not counselling. It's not a grief group.
It's about
- asking questions, raising concerns, fears and uncertainty.
- exploring what could be, and how to make things happen.
- What is needed, legally, and financially?
- Brainstorming your life celebration, designed to showcase and celebrate your personality and your wishes.
- Connecting, being as honest and as vulnerable as you feel safe. You don't even need to say anything and just listen.
Truly, it's a self-care and act of love, for you and your family.
Join us on the first Tuesday of the Month. RSVP so we can ensure the right amount of space to share comfortably.
Advance Care Planning Workshop
What would you do if your loved one had an accident or was critically ill and things weren't looking good? Add the idea that Drs are asking you about invasive treatment, but couldn't guarantee they would return to their previous level of independence or function.
Do you know when they would say no to treatment, support, rehab, etc.? Not many do, which is why Advance Care Plans are there - for people to record what they would agree to in the event they couldn't talk or think. For instance...
- An accident
- A coma
- A life-threatening illness
- Long-term illness that is progressing and aims to maintain dignity, function, and independence.
Without formal records, the Drs are bound to treat, but this can be against the patient's wishes.
The person may be forced to live in ways they would not have agreed to if they were conscious, aware and able to communicate.
As hard as it is, being another's voice when they don't have one is an important and loving role. But again, if you don't know, how can you advocate for their decisions?
This Advanced Care Planning workshop is for these reasons.
- To help you consider when you would say yes and no to treatment, what would the defining moment be and look like?
- Open the door to discussions with significant people in your life so they are aware of your preferences.
- Clearly start the documentation process, so your family, doctors and carers know what you agree to and not.
- Learn the legal considerations from Amy McDowell of Ladybird Wills and Estates.
- Brainstorm and start the documentation process so you can take them to your health professional for signature.
- Learn about the health, financial and legacy documents required to plan well for your future.
Presented in conjunction with Ladybird Wills and Estates, you can explore your thoughts, those of your loved one, and record your wishes.
Hosted by Honouring Life Education, Ladybird Wills and Estates, and Cornerstone Funerals.
56 Squats.
This is what I, and Honouring Life Education, have committed to. A month of 56/31. That is 56 squats per day for the 31 days of March.
Why?
Honouring Life Education is about supporting those who are navigating aging, palliative and end-of-life phases. Now, I know breast cancer is not an automatic terminal diagnosis for most people, yet 9 people a day die from breast cancer.
For those who have the diagnosis and accept treatment its not fun, and no promise of remission.
Everyone with a life-threatening condition still requires help, support, ideas, to get their documents in order and learn about what can be done for themselves and their families.
If our contribution helps these people, learn, access and be supported, then this is a win. I can't remove the threat, but collectively, we can help them along their journey.
